CENTURY SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGIES TO SEND CLIMBER UP MOUNT KILIMANJARO IN SUPPORT OF THE FIGHT AGAINST HIV/AIDS

July 1, 2009

Century Systems Technologies is pleased to announce sponsorship of a participant in this year’s Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge against HIV/AIDS. In addition to their annual donation of toques and outerwear for all of the climbers, Rob Patterson, a Software Implementation Specialist with Century Systems, will be making the climb in this year’s event.

The climb, which started in 2002 in response to former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa’s 1999 call to the entire nation to commit itself to the fight against the increasing problem of HIV/AIDS in the country, including the alarming number of children being orphaned by the disease continues today in its eighth consecutive year as a result of the initiative of Geita Gold Mining Limited.

Each year climbers including both workers from Geita Gold Mining Limited and their international associates embark on the exhausting six day trek up the mountain to the Uhuru peak at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise over 150 million Tanzanian Shillings ($115,000 USD). Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and the world’s largest freestanding mountain. Funds raised during the climb are disturbed among organizations that conduct HIV/AIDS research and provide support for those living with HIV and AIDS as well as to organizations within Tanzania that care for orphaned children.

Rob Patterson is part of the group of approximately fifty climbers to ascend the mountain which also includes former CVRD INCO COO and now AngloGold Ashanti CEO Mark Cutifani. The group of climbers leaves for the mountain today (Wednesday July 1st, 2009) in preparation for tomorrow’s start of the climb.

The team at Century Systems is extremely proud of the dedication that Rob has shown towards the situation in Tanzania. In addition to participating in this year’s Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge, Rob, who frequently visits Geita Gold Mine as part of his work with Century Systems has also spearheaded other charitable initiatives including the distribution of books to a school who greatly needed them in Geita Town, and supplying jerseys to a local soccer team in the area.
